Questions about Bridal Alterations

Q: Do you offer alterations services in-house, or do I need to find my own seamstress?

A: We do offer in-house alterations for wedding dresses purchased here, but please note that our seamstresses have limited availability and cannot accommodate all of our brides. For this reason, we also maintain a list of trusted outside seamstresses who have worked with our brides in the past.

Q: When do I start my wedding dress alterations?

A: We suggest scheduling your first fitting 3 - 4 months prior to your wedding. During busy wedding season, June - October, you may be asked to start earlier to fit into the seamstress’ schedule.

Q:   How long do wedding dress alterations usually take?

A:    Typically a bride will have at least 2-3 fittings before her dress is 100% complete. There is normally 6-8 weeks between each fitting, which is why we suggest starting at least 3 months prior to your wedding date. Alterations can be completed in less time but may be subjected to a rush fee.

Q: What alterations are typically needed for wedding dresses?

A: Our experienced team meticulously measures each bride to ensure the best fit possible. While every dress and body is unique, the most common alterations we typically see include hem adjustments, bustling, and strap alterations. However, our talented seamstresses are capable of handling all types of alterations, ensuring that your dress fits you like a dream on your special day.

Q: Can you accommodate customizations or changes to the dress design during alterations?

A: Absolutely! We love working with brides to bring their unique vision to life. Our seamstresses are skilled at accommodating customizations to make your dress truly yours. Some examples of customizations we've done in the past include adding sleeves or straps, incorporating lace or beadwork, adjusting necklines, and creating custom embellishments. Whatever your dream dress looks like, we're here to help make it a reality!

Q:    What do I need to bring with me?

A:     You will need to bring the shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day along with any undergarments you are planning to wear. This can include a bra, Spanx, corset, lingerie, stickies, tape, slip, etc.

Q: Can you recommend any specific undergarments or accessories to wear during fittings?

A: Yes, we can recommend specific undergarments or accessories to wear during fittings to ensure the best possible fit for your dress. The recommendations may vary depending on the style and design of the dress. Our team will advise you on the best options based on the specific needs of your dress to ensure you look and feel your best on your special day.

Q: What is the process if I lose or gain weight after my initial fittings?

A: We recommend focusing on maintaining your weight once you begin the alterations process to ensure the best possible fit for your dress. While we do offer multiple fittings to accommodate minor adjustments, it's important to note that significant weight fluctuations may incur additional charges for readjustments by our seamstresses. Our goal is to ensure your dress fits you perfectly, and we're here to support you throughout the process.

Q:     How much do alterations typically cost?

A:      Alteration estimates are given on a dress by dress basis. The cost will vary depending on what needs to be done to the dress and the type of detailing that is on the dress. Our average cost for bridal alterations, excluding customizations, is between $500 - $700.

Q: Do you charge a consultation fee to meet with the seamstress?

A: No, we do not charge a consultation fee to meet with the seamstresses. Consultations are always complimentary. However, if you have a first fitting and decide not to move forward with the alterations process after the initial pinning of your dress, there may be a pinning fee charged by the seamstress for their time. We want to ensure transparency and provide the best service possible throughout your alterations journey.

Q: Do I need to schedule a separate appointment for alterations, or can it be done during my dress try on appointments?

A: Yes, alterations appointments are scheduled separately to ensure we can focus entirely on perfecting the fit of your dress. These appointments are scheduled based on your availability, timeline, and our seamstress's schedule. We're dedicated to providing you with the individual attention and time needed to ensure your dress fits you flawlessly for your special day.

Q: Do you offer fittings during evenings or weekends to accommodate my schedule?

A: Yes, we understand the importance of accommodating busy schedules. Our seamstresses are available for fittings on Wednesdays and Thursdays, as well as occasional Saturdays. We're committed to ensuring that your alterations appointments fit seamlessly into your schedule, making the process as convenient and stress-free as possible for you.

Q: Do you offer pressing or steaming services before the wedding day?

A: Yes, we offer pressing or steaming services for wedding dresses, whether you get alterations done here or elsewhere. Ensuring your dress looks pristine and ready for your big day is our priority. This service is free of charge but needs to be scheduled in advance to ensure we can accommodate your needs and have your dress looking its best for your wedding day.

Q: Can you store my dress after alterations until closer to the wedding date?

A: Yes, we recommend picking up your dress the week of the wedding to ensure it's ready for your special day. We're happy to provide complimentary storage for your dress until then. This allows you to focus on other wedding preparations with peace of mind knowing that your dress is safe and secure with us.
